STAR.GATE - REBORN (Steel Gallery Records)

                                  (Review by Stefan)

Since their start back in 2003, Greece based Star.Gate just released its second album “Reborn” through Steel Gallery Records, the sub-division of the mighty Arkeyn Seel Record company. Without exaggerating, this label brings outstanding Metal to the masses… when the time has come to pop up with a new release, pure euphoria by the grace of Hard Rock and Metal will dominate your heart and soul.

Debuted back in 2004 with the album Stargate, for a sophomore fans had to wait for about nine years but proverbial cliché or not, this period appears more than worth… be ready for a great portion of Melodic Hard Rock delivered by highly skilled musicians. The group occupation has changed over the years, Andreas Paraponiaris is the new keyboard player and Stelios Sioulas can go wild and free now from behind his own drumkit. New line-up, new album that reflects the band’s good knowledge in beautiful, AOR toned compositions.

To underline the quality of Star.Gate, I immediately recommend you all the first song called ‘Music From The Heart’, vocally wise, quite melancholic but straight from the heart melodic Hard Rock work. Dimitris Tiktopolous’s way of harmonic vocals still know how to charm me, clear but solid as a rock, he surely plays a special role in the spectacle of Star.Gate. Also the keyboard sections to fit the style of the band and as a guitar freak myself, I’m feeling good listening to the heavenly sounding, full melodic leads. Dynamic, full skilled drums and basslines to catch my attention on a regular basis. The band does not deviate from their Melodic Hard Rock/Metal alley so you don’t have to expect spectacular musical twists. Their loyalty to this nice gem decorates them in an outstanding way.

Songs like ‘Just Like A Flame’, ‘Reborn’ or ‘I’m Not Afraid Tonight’ are fairly well connected to each other and feels good to me. This is the band’s style and they do it real good! As expected in advantage, a few ballads are present as well… do I have a problem with that? Not at all! It happen to be heard on an album like this. Titles as ‘So Alone’, ‘I Can’t Stop Thinking Of You’ need no introduction, just relax and enjoy the tenderness of both tracks. Also added to the tracklist of “Reborn” are two re-recorded versions of older Star.Gate tracks ‘Summernights’ and ‘I Am Not Afraid Tonight’. The band has chosen to complete their second album with a third, ballad-esque song entitled ‘Stay United’ where subdued melancholy reign as the players introduce violin and piano parts… somewhat unexpected, surprising, still remarkable composition.

“Reborn” is a perfect album for those hooked on melodic Hard Rock/Metal including neoclassical leanings and awesome vocals reminiscent of the one and only Jeff Scott Soto and Tony Martin fame. Available as jewel box, featuring a professional sound, through Steel Gallery Records at: http://www.steelgallery.com/  For fans of Royal Hunt, Lionheart, Malmsteen, Ten, Alias, Journey.

My Points: 84 / 100
