STEEL CITY - NOW IT'S TIME (Steel City/Logic II Logic)

                               (Review by Officer Nice)

Italy has become a late grower when we talk about Metal. This country might be great in sports, culture and lots of other things but in Metal Italy is not much more than a footnote in the history of Metal. Okay, there were several bands that delivered us good things and some of the albums from out of the boot of Europe are fantastic but in general Italy isn’t a leading country.

Nevertheless I have some good albums in my collection from out there. A band I have never heard about is Steel City. With a not that attractive front cover I gave this release a few spins. This isn’t  an exceptional effort but Steel City knows how to combine a modern touch with old school tunes. It’s not always that simple to define the band but I suppose fans of Avenged Sevenfold, Faith No More and other bands that crosses genres should give this one a chance.

To be honest the production of this release is a weak point. If a band plays modern Metal also a modern production is demanded. This album does not overwhelm the listener although I can’t deny some good musicians are at work here. The leads and riffs are pretty good and the band worked hard to create an own sound. But again the failure of the production makes this album ‘middle of the road’. Also the vocals by a man called Fabio Riccio are not convincing enough to take the listener by the throat.

Steel City should try harder to convince the Metal scène of their qualities. There are plenty of good ideas, basically no one can deny that these guys are able to write good songs but it needs more to convince! I have the feeling this band does not know already which direction they really want. Check them out at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Steel-city.
