ALL ELSE FAILS - FUCKTROPLIS (Suicidal Bride Records)

                               (Review by Officer Nice)

I like this kind of intro’s. It always gives a special touch to an album and the first razor sharp notes fit good as well. All Else Fails? It seems to be a band from Canada. Last we had a discussion about Canadian bands… Although only a few became really big, the scène offers enough in different genres.

What is clear after the first track is the fact that All Else Fails tries to combine a big load of aggression with melodic lines. Two kinds of vocal sounds are at least responsible for it but the band also makes riffing important. The often midtempo riffs are supported by strong played drums and heavy bass guitar lines. It gives the band a modern touch….

The band is, as far as I’ve read, a true live band and with a track like “A Most Unwanted Reprieve” they prove it at once. I can imagine these guys want a crowd to sing along with them… Musical wise All Else Fails crosses boundaries between Hardcore, some Death Metal, some modern Testament and tons of tunes we can hear in modern bands. Nevertheless the band tries to import pretty original notes into their music. Talking about the same song some keyboards in the background are giving a special touch. The band goes even further and at some points real Progressive arrangements bare available. Add some darkness all over and All Else Fails becomes a very special band. The brutal vocals, in combination of very strong clear – at some points even touching – vocals lifts this band up to a higher level! This band works as a team, that’s obvious!

This 5 song EP needs some time but I can assure you some good musicians are at work right here. The songs are varied and therefore it is necessary to give this one several spins. It will help you to find the red lines on this one. Neck wrecking and brutal at the one moment, ultra emotional and gloomy at the other. But I don’t consider it as some kind of an identity crisis, therefore All Else Fails knows perfectly what they are doing.

I am not the biggest fan of modern sounding Metal but All Else Fails seems to be a band with a future. These guys know how to write good Metal and they know that an album often demands samples and special atmospheric sounds in the background. This band will please lots of Metal fans and I expect to hear from these guys more pretty soon…. Check this goodie out at
