(Review by Officer Nice)

Ancient Dreams is a masterpieceÖ if we talk about the old good Candlemass. Itís no secret this Doom Metal formation released an album in 1988 that helped define the genre. In a period when Thrash and other fast played Metal were amazingly successful it was a blast, no doubt.

So, the fact that other bands, even generations later, are influenced by the Swedish Doom Metal Gods shouldnít surprise us. This band is heading from Chicago / USA and besides traditional Doom Metal I hear just for the biggest part some Heavy Metal. These guys are delivering good played riffs and although I donít know the ages of these guys I suppose they were once baptized in a bath of old school Metal.

Ancient Dreams is as traditional as it could be but delivers more than once good things. This ainít a technical band and so you donít have to expect to hear exclusive good leads. What Ancient Dreams was aware of, writing this EP, is the fact that song writing is at least as important. With a bit of an epic touch you can hear some good traditional Heavy Metal. Singer Al has a typical voice for a US Metal band. Another remarkable thing is the fact that the bass guitar sounds strong, often overpowers even the guitars. Thatís no problem, if Iron Maiden built their career on it, why should we blame a new bandÖ

If youíre into traditional Heavy Metal with clean, often soaring vocals, you should try this band out. Itís a band that needs to grow on several points, thatís a fact, but I enjoyed this CD-R Ö Check them out at
