CONAN'S FIRST DATE - THE DEVIL IS ON THE LOOSE (Independent/Infinite Metal Promotion)
(Review by Officer Nice)
After the fall of the wall our part of Europe suffered difficult times… There were lots of disadvantages because of the fact Europe became ‘one’ but we must admit that not everything that comes out of the east is good for us. I don’t want to sound as a racist, let me call it realism. But in Metal there are no boundaries and it doesn’t bother from which country a band or a Metal head is coming. There are bands all over the world and our genre is adored by millions all over this entire globe. We are bounded by Metal, a reason why our music stands so tall since many decades! And so I can start to talk about a band with a bit of a strange name, heading from Szentendre / Hungary. These guys are delivering their third effort and it seems the band is still unsigned. From what I’ve read they are very popular in their own country but it’s about time to go abroad.
I suppose a bit of support can really help these guys out because they deliver music that should interest a whole lot of Metal fans. Their modern sound will easily convince the youth and this record is really worth checking it out. Fans of bands like Nevermore, especially Machine Head and lots of modern formations will be astonished by Conan’s First Date.
What I like about the album is the overall overwhelming wall of sound and the clean vocals Marton Bencze uses in some songs. On “Uncovering” for example that really gives a kick. Add some very good played leads on a very good produced album and I am into this band! These Hungarians are using elements from the bands I have mentioned before. The Power, the Thrashy riffs, the hard hitting arrangements, the varied rhythms… Marton Bencze is using some kind of grunts, what makes this one sound more modern but as a matter of fact I pity it for a part! It brings the band closer to Machine Head than to Nevermore and I’m a fan of this last band, do you get my statement? Besides my opinion, that really doesn’t matter anyway, I can only say Conan’s First Date delivers everything that is needed to sound professional and promising.
This album is really very good and should easily be picked up by all those who adore a mixture of mid-tempo Thrash, a slice of technical Death Metal and all what lies in the direct neighbourhood. These lads know the secret in adding something special into their music, which makes them easy to listen to. “Undead Ballet”, “Jailbreak” and “Revolution Of The Flesh” are some of the good tracks I have heard on “The Devil is on the loose”. I suppose a contract will be available for the band very soon! A good Hungarian product! Check: www.facebook.com/cfdmusic
