SIAMESE FIGHTING FISH - BREATHE : SEE : MOVE (Mighty Music/Target Productions)
(Review by Officer Nice)
Two bands from Denmark in one package, that’s unusual. Well, both bands have the same label and that’s probably the main reason, no? I had no clue what the band name was all about, after a few clicks on Google it seems to be a real fish, a beautiful fish by the way. The band? Also unknown to me and a strange name for a Metal band if you would ask my opinion. Well, on the other hand there are enough bands with ‘Steel’ or ‘Dark’ as keywords. It makes at least these Danish guys original, let’s give the CD a spin….
With a digi-pack that reminded me of Superior’s “Ultima Ratio” I had some expectations for a Progressive Metal band but this is another kind of fish. Siamese Fighting Fish sounds more alternative and mixes traditional Rock with a bit of Grunge and yes, it has Progressive touches too. The opening track “Haut” is a good way to start this record and proves that this band is out for a wider public. I suppose they are able to overgrow Metal as a genre and it will – or might be – the kind of band that will be thea black sheep at a Metal Festival. A bit like Volbeat I suppose or how the Metal scène more and more leaves the boundaries of their own subculture behind. The call for big money? I suppose so, but without good music it will be very difficult to reach that goal..
And yes, Siamese Fighting Fish is an ensemble of good musicians and ditto song writers. The band creates a special mood and must easily convince any Rock fan, Metal fans included. "The World Might Have Seen Better Days" will be a first single and I am quite sure if this song gets the attention on mainstream radio and TV stations Siamese Fighting Fish will be well known pretty soon. It would also mean that this will probably the last time a webzine, like Metal To Infinity, will have the chance to review their stuff.
But I don’t have a problem with that because this is a great Rock band with good guitars, superb arrangements and a very good singer. The single I am talking about, has those special compositions that keeps on playing in your mind and obliges the listener to stop whatever he was doing! Siamese Fighting Fish easily seduces the listener by their tunes. This is an ultra-professional band and I think they are ready to conquer the world. Also the violin parts are pretty impressive!
Die hard fans of pure Metal should give this formation at least a chance but if they stay close minded Siamese Fighting Fish will never give their secrets to them. But I agree, these guys don’t look Metal, don’t breathe Metal but in this case I don’t mind! Therefore this music is too good! At least they crossed the lines more than enough to deserve being reviewed by us. A track like "Don't try this alone" is the perfect proof that this band contains fans of hard hitting Heavy Metal! This band overgrows our favorite genre and it’s pretty bizarre this label contracted these guys. I’m no clairvoyant but I have the feeling we will hear from these guys more in the near future and this by representing high quality music. Http://www.sififi.com .
