ANCILLOTTI - THE CHAIN GOES ON (Pure Steel Records)

The Italian band Strana Officina is probably the first Italian Heavy Metal band that was capable to become a legendary band. The brothers Fabio and Roberto Cappanera used to play in their fathers garage and their debut album ‘Rock’n Roll Prisoners’ can also be found in my personal record collection; Despite a car accident on July 23rd, 1993 both brothers died and the future of Strana Officina was compromised. The urge to continue was present and Rolando (drums) and son of Roberto and  Dario Cappanera (guitars), nephew of Fabio and Roberto kept the spirit alive. All those years, they had a charismatic vocalist called Daniele ‘Bud’ Ancillotti who wanted to start a band on its own as well. Daniele teamed up with his brother Sandro ‘Bid’ Ancillotti and since 2009 the band Ancillotti was formed!

Bid’s son Brian Antillotti was recruited as a drummer and together with guitar player Luciano ‘Ciano’ Toscani, the lineup was completed. After the necessary rehearsals, the band entered the recording studio for a first effort, called ‘Down This Road Together’. This EP was released in September 2012, and contained four songs with a total duration of almost 20 minutes. Those that want to complete their collection will be happy to hear that those four tracks are featured on this debut album as well. ‘The Chain Goes On’ is released at the end of February 2014 and the 11 tracks take a total time of 45 minutes. The quartet is ready to revive the great Strana Officiana times again, and hope that this ‘family’ metal act will score success abroad Italy as well.

After the intro and the mentioned ‘lift off’, the first single of ‘The Chain Goes On’ is blowing your speakers with the metal hymn ‘Bang Your Head’. Those that want to check this song out, here is a link and prepare yourself to raise your fist in the air and prepare to do what the title of this track is commanding! ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWhL92l6Ua0 ). My personal favorite song in this album is called ‘Devil Inside’ as it has all ingredients to get your neck muscles at work!

The music of Ancillotti isn’t technical at all, but it’s honest and straight from the heart; The songs have a low threshold to find out where the amusement  part is, so we can easily say that Ancillotti is pure Heavy Metal with a nostalgic feeling to the  80’s. Probably, it might be a little dated for the new metalheads anno 2014, but have one thing in mind, as this is the origin of nowadays metal.  Without bands like Strana Officina and nowadays Ancillotti, most of the millennium metal acts wouldn’t exist. This is the source, the cradle and the  nascency of  Heavy Metal, and they can be proud on their result. The band proves it all: some long approved methods are simply the best !

My rating: 84 / 100
