BELLICOSE - LOVE ON ICE (Arkeyn Steel Records)

The eighties metal catalogue holds many legendary bands which we all enjoy on daily base. The true atmosphere around that period is praised and hailed by many metal fans due to high quality songs, much talent and the best albums that were released in those years.

Overshadowed by big bands who are still having a huge fanbase nowadays, there were a lot of smaller, talented bands which might not even exist anymore. They released rare treasures which are only adored by die hard metal fanatics. This encouraged some bands to re-unite after the dreadful nineties when metal lost a lot of fans due the upcoming Grunge scene or less-quality releases. For some of these rare records you will have to pay plenty of money. Unfair to some, fair to others. Therefore, some labels or distros re-release some obscurities so anyone can enjoy them at reasonable prices.

Arkeyn Steel Records has their heart at the right place and did a reissue of "Love On Ice" by forgotten Dallas band, Bellicose. As a bonus they added the original 1984 demo. "Love On Ice", originally released on the Warped Records label in 1989 was expensive and rare before this re-release.

The record gives you a pure 80's feeling, no hints at what had to come at us a few years later in the mainstream music scene. Bellicose brings typical US Melodic Heavy Metal but in the more cheesier glammy way. The very talented musicians still play sharp edged riffs and tight bass lines. Joey Darangelo sings very clean and high... he could've done an audition for any glam band and be hired immediately, though his voice fits the music very well. The album was also re-produced, so the sound is up to date, which is essential for these tracks. The original cover from the eighties was put in a modern jacket too.

According to myself: US Metal fanatics, check this classic high quality record out and enjoy to the fullest… 80's metal lovers in general will be spoiled as well ! Bellicose’s “Love On Ice” is sounding not too progressive so you won't need to be very open minded. Order, listen and let your heart and soul be surrounded by the almighty forces of US Metal in the vein of Fifth Angel, Leatherwolf, Heir Apparent.

My Points: 89 / 100
