BENEATH - ANTIDOTE (Independent)

                              (Review by Officer Nice)

I don’t get a clear point of view from this band. Is it a one-man band? Are these three friends playing some Metal together? Is it a real band? Is it a project? I suppose it’s a mixture of all these and I think we all know what Swedish dynamite is all about. Everybody knows the rich culture of Swedish Metal, no? I suppose so and therefore only I think it’s worth checking this band out. A private release is always interesting anyway, believe me.

Beneath offers a ‘modern looking’ front cover but in reality this is a melodic Thrash metal band. And yes, I have always been into melodic Thrash Metal. That we deal with some good musicians right here will be obvious after a few seconds. Rather strange that Beneath has no real future plans… These friends invited other friends for the guitar sessions but maybe they can ask one of them to stay! This kind of Metal sounds varied, mature, overwhelming and threatening, as it is supposed to be! This band offers varied music, often surprising and is easily able to get the listener into their songs. Also vocal wise this band varies the whole time, seducing but not always easy. In other words there is some time to spend!

To be only labelled as Thrash Metal may be a bridge too far. The melodic and acoustic lines, but also some evil sounding riffs brings the band closer to more extreme forms. It gives the band a special flair, a haze in which also big bands in the more extreme Metal bands often appear. No, not Black Metal, not Death Metal but some good ingredients you can discover in this kind of band. Beneath isn’t Progressive as well, but often with technical played arrangements. The beautiful played piano parts in for example “Everything Ends” even gives the band some ‘Opeth Sounding’ touch, if you know what I mean. It gives the band something special, something you don’t hear that much and that’s awesome to say.

So yes, Beneath delivers a very good release and it would be a pity if this would end here. Beneath has something to offer, something that especially fans of modern Metal will like but I am quite sure old school fans of extreme Metal will be interested as well. A very good effort to check on:
