Front covers with a chess board on the front mostly disguises a masterpiece. I know several bands who use this item for their cover and I don’t know the reason why, it brought me good luck time after time. Most impressing one to me stays “As Darkness Reigns” from the US Progressive Power Metal band Orcale. Remember them? Awesome!

This time I have a promo version of the German band ChainReaction in my hand and I must admit it’s a very nice front cover. Musical wise it’s pretty clear at once this will not be a new discovered masterpiece but I hear some good old school Heavy Metal. This band is fronted by a lady, Conny Bethke, who contains a typical voice for this kind of Metal. In my opinion the vocals should be overall more varied. ChainReaction delivers us varied Heavy Metal tracks with more than a blink of an eye to the Eighties Metal movement.

Inspired by all the big Metal bands from that era ChainReaction offers an album that will be liked by fans of True Metal. It wouldn’t surprise me if this band would appear one day at for example the mighty Keep It True Festival. This band is strong enough to deserve a place on it although this will never be a band that will dominate the world, not even the German scène. After two EP’s this is their first full album and the band can be proud of it. Yet I have the feeling the band is able to do much more in the future because I’ve heard some – but too less to be honest - good things on this record.

In vein of bands like Hammerfall and other more modern ‘old school’ bands they are delivering the goods, melodic Heavy Metal with a more powerful underground. The traditional female voices rings another bell to me and brings me to for example Chastain or Vainglory although ChainReaction never reaches the quality level of previous mentioned bands. This is just good Heavy Metal with  fast and slow songs, even a nice ballad (“Dreaming”), really great leads, respectable yet no memorable songs and decent vocals. Check the band out at
