CHAINSAW - SMELL THE SAW (Word Chaos Productions)

This band from North Holland was formed back in 1996. After releasing a demo and live album, their debut effort came out on the Japanese “WorldChaos Productions” label in June 2004.

The band had a few incidents with their band members such as a car crash, a schizophrenic drummer and even an electrocuted bass player. Seeing Chainsaw live is always a bloody experience. They have a unique stage act with pig slaughtering, guts flying around and lots of blood running free!

These guys play thrash metal in vein of the 80’s German bands such as Destruction, Kreator or Deathrow. Fast, aggressive and thrashy riffing, combined with the raw voice and some high-pitched screams from singer Aike, makes you want to bang your brains out. Be aware of the fact that the production of “Smell The Saw” is splendid. Long story short, this is how thrash metal should sound… full, energetic and lots of power !

Lyrical themes involving blood, slaughter, sex and drinking give you an idea what Chainsaw is all about. Songs like “The Butcher of Baghdad”, “Master Of Fate”, “Route 666” and “She Just Wants To Get Laid” rip things up for a thrashy metal session. I strongly recommend watching this funny video clip.

If you ever get the opportunity to experience a Chainsaw gig, don’t hesitate. Old school thrash metal fanatics will enjoy this A LOT. All songs are good, if not very good… in my opinion, Chainsaw can be described as one of Holland’s better Metal acts. If you want this album, go search in metal distros or contact the band through their website.
