CHAOS ENGINE RESEARCH - THE LEGEND WRIITEN BY AN ANONYMOUS SPIRIT OF SILENCE (Mighty Music/Target)
This Polish band was founded in 2007 and recorded their debut in 2012, which took over one year. Their second effort, released in September 2014, is described as Progressive Metal with thrash elements. Another vague description which made me quite curious. It is a good thing that musicians try to be original or to experiment with different genres. If done well, we can sometimes hear great music.
The Legend Written by an Anonymous Spirit of Silence is a concept album which consists twelve tracks. The story tells about a man who died but simply won't accept this fact. He signs a pact with Death himself which makes him wonder around the corners of the universe where he thinks about some philosophic subjects.
I always liked concept albums because of their continuity throughout the songs. One of my all-time favourite albums is a concept album by Belgian band Target, Master Project Genesis.
The album itself sounds very modern. It reminds me of Nu-Metal bands like Slipknot, Stone Sour or maybe even Tool. Production was done very professional with a full blasting sound and a mix that is very in balance. The album sounds very heavy. They have two vocalist. One of them grunts and screams very deeply and the other one uses cleaner vocal lines. The last one actually reminds me of Corey Taylor. In some parts of the songs electrical synth sounds where added but this wasn't used to frequently, so I don't mind this addition.
Me as a more traditional fan dislikes this modern behaviour a bit, although fans of modern metal styles will fade away and enjoy this album very much. The quality level on this one is high.
Conclusion: do you like very modern sounding metal at a high level? Then you will enjoy this one. Do you swear by the 80's heavy metal sounds, don't even bother listening. https://www.facebook.com/ChaosEngineResearch
