RIK PRIEM'S PRIME - RIK PRIEM'S PRIME (Avenue Of Allies Music//H'Art)
Some time ago I was following a discussion on Facebook about Belgium. Did you know there are Americans who dare to say that Belgium is a country of cowards? Well, we do have them but every country contains them. Weíre a special country, not understandable for those who arenít making part of this bizarre land, thatís fact. Our politicians are not reliable and we are far too tolerant but cowards? No, the Flemish part of the country is known for their hard work but their tolerance may not be confused with some kind of coward ship. What we are, indeed, is too modest. Especially when weíre talking about our history we are far too unpretentious. Okay, we never had any bands that conquered the world but musical wise? Oh yes, musical wise we had superb bands.
Iím proud to make the review about a band that listens to the name of Rik Priemís Prime. The band name itself declares that the main man behind this formation is Rik Priem. He might be not the famous guitar player but what a talent! Some might know him from Frozen rain, another band he had a leading role in. Although that was a very good effort this album didnít shock the world. I doubt this record is responsible for the latest earthquake in the States but at least I can say that fans of Heavy Rock will adore this album.
Why? Because this is a very strong recorded Heavy Melodic Rock album with more than one blink of an eye to AOR, a sub style I am fond of lately. The professionalism and enthusiasm drips out of your speakers! This is the kind of album that will always give you a good feeling and be sure, in the right era and place; this would have had the effect of a good old nice splinter bomb. Read my lips; in the eighties and in the USA, this project would have been hot because it burns down the heart and the soul! This sentence declares that Rik Priemís Prime contains an American sound and this kind of music should attract a wider public than Metal fans, at least as long as theyíre open minded.
Donít get me wrong, this isnít a new Ďclassicí album, itís not the kind of masterpiece that will change our scŤne but damn, this is good! I hear a very strong song writing, good rhythms, a fantastic singer and of course the shredding guitars are amazing and extraordinary. I witness first class musicianship all over with tracks that will keep on playing in your mind. And no, I donít need to explain that one after another fast fingered solo is heading your way but Rik Priemís essential goal was to deliver harmonic tracks, to suck you in a positive atmosphere with leads and riffs that touches the soul of the listener. Itís a very enjoyable trip that fans of bands like Dokken, Winger but even the Belgian Mystery (who remembers them?) will like. Rik Pream is a man that probably worships Heavy Rock all his life and I suppose old bands like Rainbow, Deep Purple etc. contained his heroes.
This is a very strong record from an ultra-talented guitar hero. Carsten 'Lizard' Schulz is the singer and believe me he did a fantastic job.Heís responsible for the fact this is a band to believe in because after all, any band stands or falls with the front man or woman. This is a very experienced singer with a fantastic pair of lungs, very exciting vocal lines and a timbre that keeps the listener focussed. You might know this German from the band Evidence One or some other projects he supported. Heís to me an undiscovered talent and I believe one day bigger bands will ask him to lean his skills.
So, who said there was no talent in Belgium? Who dares to say Belgium doesnít contain guitar heroes? Who said that Belgium is a country of cowards? If you want a fantastic release full of harmonic first class Heavy Metal you canít overlook this record! Five big talents in a band that delivers but quality, the kind of Metal that energises me, makes me thrilled and longing for more! Too good to be ignored! Check: http://www.mrcool.be
