SOLBRUD - Jærtegn - Target / Mighty Music

Solbrud from Denmark plays Black Metal. This subgenre is known as one of the more extreme forms in metal. This style of music came to form in Scandinavia and became infamous due to Satanic lyrics that are often used. Therefore this music was pushed more into the underground of Metal. Until this day it holds a huge following. However, it will never become very mainstream.

Jærtegn is the second output from Solbrud. The band was formed in 2009 and plays a more melodic or atmospheric form of Black Metal. They did a bunch of big shows like Copenhell or Roskilde and got nominated for the Association of Danish Music Critics Award. The album holds only 4 tracks, but they're all between 9 and 16 minutes long.

The lyrics are delivered in Danish, which makes it impossible for me to understand. After a little research on the web I found out that it handles about non-Satanic subjects and more natural phenomena. The production done by Lasse Ballade and Johnny Stage sounds huge and full of sound. A wall of chaos reaches you. The songs have traditional Black Metal elements such as double bass, drum blast beats and fast riffing. Also the vocals done by Ole Luk are typical Black Metal. Synthesizers are avoided which I can only approve of. Although we get a lot of melodic moments throughout the songs, the album doesn't become cheesy.

Conclusion: pure Black Metal with some progressive elements. People who like for example, Ulver or Fen, might adore this one. If you dislike this subgenre, then this won't be your stuff.
