STRIKER - CITY OF GOLD (Napalm Records)

Canada, home to many great metal acts! Think off Exciter, Anvil, Annihilator, Voivod, Skull Fist, Varga, Razor and so on. Also Rush originates from this country filled with great music! “City Of Gold” is Strikers third output. Eyes In The Night and Armed To The Teeth are two great releases. I enjoyed both albums alot due to their old school Speed Metal approach and pure metalness.

I was very excited to hear this new effort. These young men know how to deliver some packed Heavy Metal! “City Of Gold” was released in September 2014 on the Austrian Napalm Records label. The same label which hosts Belgian Speed Metal band Evil Invaders! First thing that pops out on the record is the amazing sound they've produced! Full lightspeeding metal sound. Louder than hell! The album sounds very professional.

Frederik Nordström did a great job. Something some new albums might lack is a good production but here they've did a perfect job on this matter! For me the sound quality is almost as important as the songs on their own. Metal needs to sound loud and full if the subgenre requires this. The right thing was done here, which I approve highly. The songs are fast and full of speedy riffing and drum beating. These gentlemen must have grown up listening to Exciter’s “Violence and Force” or “Heavy Metal Maniac”. This album came right from the 80's! Twin guitar shredding gives the song a more powerful vibe. Finally add some clean and melodic vocals from Dan Cleary and we have all we need for a good session. Some riffs even remind me of Iron Maiden. All I can think of is headbanging and fast driving while listening to these fresh sounding tracks. Sounds good right? Go check out this record!

Final conclusion. This is their best effort so far! Striker sound adult and talented. People who enjoy pure 80's metal will enjoy this album and I can recommend “City Of Gold” to every self respecting Metalhead. The songs promise a blast on stage so I hope to catch them live soon! Striker is a band you should look out for because we will hear a lot more from them. They will have to do their very best to make a better album than this one. This CD will stay in the record player for a little longer and gets my seal of approval.
