THE MEGS - AWAKENING (Pure Steel Publishing)

I was blessed with some Radio friendly Rock with the package that the post man delivered me. This is the second album in a row that I could easily have heard on a bigger Radio station. Well, that’s not exactly true because where I live the most radio stations are delivering all those modern kind of music or pure nostalgic tunes. For Rock there is less space, for Metal there is hardly attention. But we’re used to it …

The fact The Megs is coming from Italy surprised me a bit. Although this band already released a full album and an EP before I’m not used hearing this kind of Rock from out of the boot of Europe. It’s rather clear this band contains good musicians for whom the song writing and the pleasure to Rock is the most important. It’s not the kind of band that will become ever immense popular nowadays, therefore their music might be a bit too dated. In the early nineties I would have said it different. But that doesn’t mean the band delivers ‘easy on the ear’ music.

I hear a good album with great guitar tunes, nice choruses and refrains, good vocals and all are heading somewhere between traditional Rock and Grunge. Pure Metal fans can’t do anything with The Megs but open minded music lovers will easily discover that The Megs are offering good stuff. This kind of straight forwarded Rock, with hard loaded guitars, will find a public when The Megs get any attention. I suppose fans of the more alternative Rock scène will like “Awakening” easily.

So, The Megs are delivering a good product in this particular style. This album won’t shock the world but it will always be a pleasure to give it a spin. I suppose The Megs is also a good live band, maybe we will get the chance to witness them one day although I doubt it will be on a typical Metal gig. Check these Italians out at
